From Quick Good-Byes to Deeper Dives: Political Research Associates’ Website Rebuild

In 2020, Political Research Associates and Religion Dispatches joined forces to strengthen research and analysis against authoritarianism. That merger, combined with a PRA brand update, prompted a restructuring of their online presence.

We rebuilt politicalresearch.org and religiondispatches.org as an integrated platform in Drupal – two autonomous sites in some regards, but unified in others – honoring their distinct approaches, but making the entire body of work more interactive, accessible, and discoverable.

The new platform also allows PRA to curate their research into collections for movement leaders and journalists. These collections deepen people’s analysis of issues ranging from antisemitism to white nationalism.

At a time where authoritarianism is at an all-time high, we found it especially meaningful to support PRA’s commitment to turning research and analysis into action.

Outcomes: Lower Bounce Rates, Longer Visits, Easier Editing

  • PRA site traffic has improved across visit duration, bounce rate, and views per visit, compared to the same time period last year.
  • PRA staff are enjoying a streamlined editor experience.
  • Integrating the two sites’ archives of articles has been a huge win.
    • The Collections feature allows PRA to showcase content from both PRA and Religion Dispatches.
    • PRA editors can tag content to make topic pages that, along with author pages, collate articles from both URLs.
    • Site search seamlessly pulls up articles from both sources.
