Partners in Health, a social justice organization providing high-quality health care globally to those who need it most, needed to bring their disparate country websites under one coherent umbrella. We partnered with Theory One to design and build a Drupal-based website template that powers each country website with a consistent design in line with PIH’s brand, follows user experience and accessibility best practices, and beautifully showcases their work.

To date we’ve launched the following sites with the website template:

The template is built using Pantheon web hosting’s custom upstream functionality. Each site is styled in accordance with PIH’s global brand. We future-proofed the sites with a custom theme to allow for intentional deviations among individual country sites when appropriate.

Each site also boasts the same feature set. Currently, some sites opt out of certain features that aren’t relevant to their needs. The codebase is intentionally designed  to be as lean as possible while also allowing for specific configuration variations based on the country teams’ needs. . We maintain the sites in line with e a governance structure that encourages collaboration and standardization across sites.

With a custom upstream, the template makes it easy to spin up new websites, as well as to deploy universal improvements efficiently across the multiple web properties.

The result is an equitable web presence for the different countries, an easier onboarding process for communications teams, and streamlined long-term maintenance among the country sites. This project also allowed PIH country teams to pool  resources to enhance and maintain this  archipelago of sites.
